In 2013 we started our journey to transform a 58 acre brownfield site, on the banks of the River Nene, into an innovative new campus with our students at the heart of the plans, work on the site began in 2015 and we’re now just around the corner from completion.
We know our staff and students want the very best, and that’s what the Waterside Campus will provide. The campus is the embodiment of our mission to transform lives and inspire change – and from day one you will be a part of that.
We wanted a campus that allows us to put you first and is flexible to the changing needs of our students but also makes the most of our fantastic staff. A University that teaches in a way that mirrors the skills you will need when you graduate; a place that provides everything you will need to live and learn; and that will provide a home-from-home as you enjoy one of the best and most fulfilling experiences of your life.
More than this we wanted a campus that was community focused, our ambition is to create a community area that allows all residents to be able to share open spaces and facilities to create a vibrant hub of activity, both during the day and evening. This includes commercial space, a hotel, leisure space and sustainable links to the town.
We also wanted to have a positive impact on the environment around us so as part of the campus development, we’ve constructed our own energy centre. Our energy provision will use woodchip biomass and gas to heat hot water for all the buildings and student residencies. This will save over 1,000 tons of CO2 in the short term, rising to 2,200 tons a year following the introduction of a Combined Heat & Power Engine – the equivalent of taking 431 cars off the road per annum.
