It’s never easy to leave home for the first time, so you need to know that when you arrive at University you won’t need to worry about where you will be living. The Halls of Residence at the Waterside Campus have been specifically designed with you and your fellow students in mind.
The new Student Village will be home to around 1,000 students, in a mix of halls of residence style flats and townhouses with landscaped courtyards.
You can choose to live in a flat; each has up to ten en-suite bedrooms and a shared kitchen/living area, or in a four-storey townhouse, which have 12 bedrooms each, as well as communal kitchen, dining and living spaces. There will also be studio flats available, complete with their own kitchenettes and a number of accessible en-suite bedrooms.
Whatever you choose they are fully furnished, and your utilities are included in your rent so no surprise costs (although you will have to pay for a TV license if you bring a television). Your room will have network and WiFi access, providing links to the University computer network so you can study wherever and however you choose.
A huge part of coming to university is the social life, including living in halls of residence. It’s a great way to make new friends and meet people, plus it’s so convenient! Everything you need, from your classes, to the library, to the pub, is on your doorstep.
You’ll also have access to a multi faith chaplaincy, bank, convenience store and Health Centre all on site.
Applications for University ran halls open around Spring and information will be sent to offer holders via email.
If you have disability-related accommodation needs, you can make a priority application to live in halls of residence. We will look at any reasonable adaptations that need to be made to improve access in our halls of residence.
For further information please contact Additional Student Support and Inclusion Services Team (ASSIST) or Accommodation Services.
If you are a first year international student you are eligible to apply to live in our halls of residence.
Applications will be considered in the order that they are received. A bedding pack will be provided for you when you arrive, the charge for this will be deducted from your Key and Damage Deposit and will cost approximately £25.
You will live in flats with up to nine other students, usually from a mix of other countries. You will have your own room – some twin rooms are available, but you will share kitchen facilities and bathrooms. You can request a room in a single-sex block, or a single-sex flat in mixed-sex halls.
